The installation of Chester’s Christmas light display has started this week revealing this year’s colour scheme…festive red baubles with long white icicles.

Installing and testing the full displays can take time, so work has started to ensure everything will be as it should be for the official switch-on event on Friday 16 November.  The lights will remain unlit until then.

The Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Wellbeing, Councillor Louise Gittins said: “There has been a change to the usual Thursday for this year’s Christmas light switch on.  The event will take place on a Friday for the first time for many, many years.

“The event has been moved a day later because Armistice Day activities will be taking place in the city earlier in the week, marking the centenary of the end of World War I.

“This year’s display uses vibrant red baubles and sparking white icicles which I’m sure will create a wonderful atmosphere for shoppers and visitors during the festive period.”

The red baubles are being used to follow a set programme of colour combinations, using baubles the Council already holds in stock.  Red the first year, green the second year, red and green the third year – and so on.
