Sports retailer, Sports Direct is the latest to exchange contracts with Cheshire West and Chester Council to open a new store in Northwich’s Barons Quay.
The UK’s leading sporting goods retailer has outgrown their current premises and has taken the decision to expand their business by creating a new high-quality store, approximately 15,000 sq ft in size, in a prime location in Barons Quay. There are also plans to include the company’s fashion brand, USC.
Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Infrastructure, Councillor Brian Clarke said: “We welcome the news that another big brand, high street store is coming to Barons Quay.
“Coming on the back of the fashion retailer announcement in May and last week’s news about The Entertainer coming to Northwich, we remain confident that more announcements will follow soon.
“Our long-term vision has always been to create a vibrant town centre where local residents can shop, live, work and enjoy leisure time, and this latest news goes a long way towards our ultimate goal.”
This latest announcement takes the occupancy rate of Barons Quay up to 60%.
A Sports Direct representative said: “We would like to thank Cheshire West and Chester Council for its support, and we look forward to having a fantastic relationship with customers at Barons Quay.”
The Council’s commitment to the wider regeneration of the town centre continues with its masterplan proposal for Weaver Square. Residents have currently being asked for their views on the potential development of new housing, a public services building and a multi-use public area that could see live music, cultural events and a market offer right in the heart of the town centre.
The current proposals will add value and complement the £129m already invested in the town.
