The Lord Mayor of Chester has written to express sympathy on behalf of the city following the van attack in Toronto on Monday.

The Lord Mayor, Councillor Razia Daniels, has written to the Mayor of Toronto, Councillor John Tory, in the wake of the incident.

“Words cannot express what your city must be feeling in these painful hours whilst you deal with the aftermath of such an incident,” she said.

“Our thoughts go out to all those who have lost loved ones and to those who have been injured, we wish them a full and speedy recovery.

“The residents of Chester are united in standing in solidarity with your city at this difficult time.

“It appears still too early to confirm the reasons for the incident but the City of Chester is united with you in your grief.”

Councillor Daniels also praised the work of those who helped the victims of the attack.

She said: “We owe a debt of gratitude to your city’s first responders and the individuals who came to the aid of the injured and dying.”
