And it’s not just who will be feeling the benefits of ditching cigarettes – your bank balance will look a whole lot healthier too. A 10-a-day smoker who decides to quit completely could save themselves about £35.00 a week – more than £1,820 a year. For those with a 20-a-day habit this rises to about £3,640 a year (based on a £10 packet of cigarettes).

Cabinet member for communities and wellbeing, Councillor Louise Gittins, said:

“Smokers who quit for good can save themselves thousands of pounds and improve their health. The benefits of quitting can be felt within days. Getting good information and support gives you the best chance of success.”
